The fatatore is found in some medieval encyclopedias. It is a bird that, unlike other birds, lays its eggs before the Spring season. Because it is still too cold, the eggs perish. But the bird lays more eggs in the summer, and these hatch successfully.

It has been suggested that the fatatore is the blackbird (Sedinova, 2011).
